Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is an English proficiency test. Those who do not come from an English-speaking country wish to study or immigrate to a country such as Canada, the United Kingdom, the United States, or any other foreign college.

All Canadian universities and colleges accept IELTS.

IRCC accepts the general training option of IELTS.

French:

TEF Canada – Test d’évaluation de français

The TEF (Test d’Evaluation de Français) is an international benchmark test that measures your level of knowledge and skills in French. 

It was founded in 1998 by the French Language Centre of CCI Paris le-de-France.

TEF Canada including the following is accepted by IRCC :

  • Compréhension de l’écrit
  • Compréhension de l’oral
  • Expression écrite
  • Expression orale

TCF Canada – Test de connaissance du français

TCF Canada including the following is accepted by IRCC :

  • Compréhension de l’écrit
  • Compréhension de l’oral
  • Expression écrite
  • Expression orale

There is no preferred test for the IRCC for immigration and Canadian PR. You can take whichever test is most convenient for you because the results of all the tests are equal.

Since Canada is a bilingual country, you may be able to boost your eligibility by submitting test results in both English and French. However, it’s not mandatory to be qualified in both languages.

Conclusion

Applying for Canadian PR does not take TOEFL scores into account. If you want to migrate to Canada and become a permanent resident, you must clear any three exams: IELTS, CEL PIP and TEF.
